Online Therapy for Children & Families in Australia | Telehealth Psychology That Comes to You

When your child needs psychological support, the last thing you need is another logistical hurdle. Early morning drives. Time off work.

Telehealth therapy for children and families removes some of those barriers, bringing warm, evidence-based psychological support directly into your home.

At Connection Point Psychology, I offer online therapy for children and families across Australia, with a trauma-informed, neuro-affirming approach that works beautifully in a telehealth setting.

Does online therapy actually work for children?

It's the first question most parents ask, and it's a good one.

The short answer is yes, it can work really well for the right child. Research consistently supports the effectiveness of telehealth-delivered therapy for children across a wide range of presentations including anxiety, depression, trauma, ADHD, and autism-related challenges. Many children engage as readily with online sessions as they do in person.

Here's why: children are often more relaxed in their own home environment. The familiar surroundings, their own toys nearby, their pet on the couch — these things reduce the activation that a clinical setting can create for an already anxious or sensory-sensitive child. For neurodivergent children in particular, home can be a genuinely safer therapeutic space.

What online therapy for children looks like

Online therapy sessions for children are tailored to age, developmental stage, and individual needs. Younger children may engage through play-based activities, drawing, or storytelling facilitated through the screen. Older children work more conversationally, with activities and worksheets shared digitally.

Parent involvement is a natural and important part of children's telehealth therapy. Caregivers are regularly included in sessions, kept informed of progress, and given practical strategies to support their child between appointments. In a telehealth model, this collaboration is even more seamlessly woven into the process.

As with all therapeutic approaches, there are some children who won’t be suited to a Telehealth approach for therapy. This will be highly dependent on developmental stage, attentional ability, the space available at home, and distractions in the environment. If you’re unsure whether your child would benefit from Telehealth, I’m happy to talk through options with you.
