Online Therapy for Teenagers in Australia | Telehealth Psychology for Adolescents

Getting a teenager to engage with therapy is, for many families, the hardest part. The commute, the waiting room, the sense of being observed and assessed — for an adolescent already feeling self-conscious or overwhelmed, these things can feel like too much before the session even begins.

Telehealth therapy meets teenagers where they already are, online, in their own space, on their own terms.

At Connection Point Psychology, I offer online therapy for teenagers across Australia, with an approach that genuinely respects adolescent autonomy and takes the teenage experience seriously.

Why telehealth works particularly well for teenagers

Teenagers are, by nature, more comfortable in digital spaces than most adults. Video-based connection is familiar territory. And for a young person who finds the social exposure of walking into a clinic difficult, particularly those navigating anxiety, depression, autism, or social differences, the option to connect from their bedroom can be the difference between engaging with support and avoiding it entirely.

Online therapy also removes the visibility of attending. For teenagers who are conscious of what peers or family members might think about them seeing a psychologist, telehealth offers a quiet, private pathway to care.

What I support via telehealth for teenagers

  • Anxiety, social anxiety, and panic

  • Depression and low mood

  • Identity, self-esteem, and body image

  • Trauma and complex trauma

  • ADHD and executive functioning challenges

  • Autism support and self-understanding

  • School stress, academic pressure, and school refusal

  • Emotion regulation and self-harm recovery support

  • Life transitions and adjustment

Our approach with teenagers

I speak to teenagers directly, honestly, and without condescension. Their perspective is centred, not just their parents' account of the problem. Confidentiality is explained clearly from the outset, including its limits, so teenagers understand exactly what is and isn't private.

My approach is trauma-informed and neuro-affirming, which means I understand that many of the struggles teenagers present with are connected to nervous system experiences, neurodivergence, or environments that haven't been built for how their brain works.

Medicare and telehealth for teenagers

Telehealth psychology sessions for teenagers are Medicare-rebated under a Mental Health Treatment Plan from a GP. Parents or caregivers can initiate this process on behalf of younger teenagers. For older adolescents, I're happy to explain how to navigate this independently.

Available across Australia

Online therapy services for teenagers are available Australia-wide — whether you're on the Central Coast of NSW, in regional Victoria, rural Queensland, or anywhere else in the country.

If your teenager is struggling and you're not sure where to start, reach out. I'll help you work out whether telehealth therapy is the right fit.
